Background
IDeA was established four years ago to help local authorities implement
best practice in their operation and services. An integral part
of their vision was the establishment of an online knowledge base,
which not only offered guidance to local authority staff and members
but was also a forum for them to share their experiences of determining
and implementing best practice
Knowledge
IDeA Knowledge is the result of this vision. It offers practical
information to help local authorities tackle the important issues
of the moment, such as community planning, the new political structures,
neighbourhood management and improving education. As well as following
the offered guidance local authorities can share their experiences,
often offering examples of their own successes as potential guidance
for others, and thus help other authorities with similar issues,
both through user forums and feedback to the editorial team.
Why Our Consultants?
After winning the contract against strong competition, Charles McKenzie's
consultants worked with IDeA from the inception of the project and
handled everything from analysis of functional and infrastructure
requirements through to development, testing, deployment, user training
and support. After the success of the initial deployment in 2001
Charles McKenzie's consultants were invited back in 2002 to complete
a programme of enhancements to the original specification.
The solution
IDeA Knowledge is a fully searchable online database with in excess
of 30,000 registered users. It has been developed entirely in Lotus
Domino, with a fully integrated content management system, in which
documents are published directly to the site after having passed
an approval process.
As well as a number of discussion forums dedicated to different
topic areas and open to all subscribers, it boasts the ability to
create private forums, with membership open only to registered invitees.
The site has been fully tested by a number of external agencies
and has accreditation from the DDI and the RNIB
